Cs demands in Congress the extension of FEVE to Cabo de Palos, the elimination of level crossings and the intermodal station (30/05/2018)

- "The expansion of the narrow-gauge rail line Cartagena-Los Nietos is a recurring promise that neither PSOE nor PP have wanted or could make reality despite the continuous demands", explained the national deputy Citizens, Miguel Garaulet

- The local spokesman of Citizens in Cartagena, Manuel Padín, has indicated that "we are not going to allow the mayor's office to remain silent on the pending agreement to unblock the removal of the level crossings and we will force them to answer in plenary session"

Citizens demand in the Congress of Deputies the extension of the rail line from FEVE Cartagena-Los Nietos to Cabo de Palos in a first phase and to Los Urrutias, Los Alcázares, San Javier and San Pedro del Pinatar in a second phase.

In addition, the national deputies of the orange formation have already registered several questions so that the central government gives explanations for not complying with the suppression of two level crossings: those of the line of the Narrow Track Railroad (FEVE) located in El Abrevadero and Collado de Los Pinos, in the area of Alumbres, and for not yet signing the collaboration agreement between the City of Cartagena and the Ministry of Public Works to promote the elimination of these dangerous crossings.

According to the national deputy of Cs, Miguel Garaulet, "the expansion of the narrow-gauge rail line Cartagena-Los Nietos is a recurring promise that never seems to take effect, despite the continuous demands."

"It seems very good that in Torrelavega 80 million euros are invested to burying the FEVE, but investments must be prioritized and the most basic needs of Cartagena are unattended," says Garaulet.

In this sense, the Cs deputy recalled that in the month of December 2015, in ordinary session, the Plenary of Cartagena approved, by seventeen votes in favor (Socialist Groups, Citizen Movement, Citizens and Cartagena Yes Can) and ten abstentions (Popular Group), a motion to expand the FEVE line.

The orange deputy also recalled that in March 2016, the Commission for Territorial Policy, Environment, Agriculture and Water of the Regional Assembly unanimously approved a motion on support for the expansion of the Cartagena-Narrow Gauge railway line. Los Nietos, in which the Governing Council was urged to, in turn, urge the Government of Spain "to have ADIF project an expansion plan of FEVE Cartagena-Los Nietos, in a first phase, to Cabo de Palos and later, in a second phase, towards Los Urrutias, Los Alcázares, San Javier and San Pedro del Pinatar ".

Only a month later, the orange formation holds, the San Javier City Council approved in plenary session to request ADIF to project this same expansion path.

"Already in October 2009, at his appearance to report on the 2009-2012 Strategic Plan, the then Socialist President of the Public Business Entity of FEVE, Ángel Villalba, stated that they had the intention to change the service they currently provided in Cartagena and that they would sign an agreement with the City Council to extend the route and tender improvements, but as the PP does now, they did nothing, that is the political capacity of the two-party system, "says Garaulet.

Finally, the deputy of Citizens recriminates the Government that the modernization of train networks in Spain, which has had its most recent continuity in a plan for the period 2016-2024, "has not meant for Cartagena the elimination of the two steps at the level that the central government prioritized in 2016: those of the FEVE line located in El Abrevadero and Collado de Los Pinos (in the Alumbres area), despite the fact that Adif awarded the drafting contract in November Projects".

For Miguel Garaulet, "the danger posed by these intersections was revealed again last Tuesday, due to the accident suffered by a 42-year-old man in the barrier-free passage of Los Mateos".

Intermodal station

For his part, the local spokesman for Citizens in Cartagena, Manuel Padín, said that "we will not allow the cabinet of the Mayor continue to keep silence on this issue, and we will also ask in the ordinary plenary for the municipal efforts made in the last eleven months to unblock the suppression of the level crossings, those answers that you do not want to give to the local press. "

Manuel Padín has indicated that his party is still working to unify the services of FEVE with those of the train station on Avenida América, "our commitment to the project to get an intermodal station that merges services for commuter travelers, FEVE, AVE and buses are still valid, this would allow to build a new parking and increase the capital gains of the properties ".

"We have been demonstrating this since 2015 when we transferred this idea to our Parliamentary Group in Congress, or when in 2015 we met in Alicante with Adif representatives to raise this possibility, unfortunately we have to face the PP Government wall, more interested in hiding their internal problems that in working for Cartagena ".
