The Cartagena Folk will present its Special Prize to Radio 3 journalist José Miguel López (29/05/2018)

Cartagena Folk celebrates its 3rd edition since it recovered in 2016, from June 7 to 10, so that the streets of the port city will be filled with root music, free of charge, and counting, among its main courses , with the participation of La Musgaña, one of the main folk music groups in Spain, and Castijazz, the project of one of the founders of Celtas Cortos, Carlos Soto.

Those responsible for presenting, on Tuesday, the details of the event, have been the Councilor for Culture, David Martínez, and the festival coordinator, Toni Peña, highlighting as one of the novelties the award of the Cartagena Folk Special Award 2018 to the Radio journalist 3 (RNE) José Miguel López, who will be on Thursday June 7 in Cartagena to perform his 10,000th Discópolis program live.

It will be from 20:30 in the Cultural Center Ramón Alonso Luzzy.

With regard to the essence of the festival, David Martinez has emphasized the commitment of the Department of Culture for this format, "for being a festive event, with innovative essence in which new groups and artists of national and international folk music, can show the new trends in the reworking of root music ".

From its beginnings and now in this new journey, the festival aims to bring music to the widest possible audience, in an enclosure that will be located on the esplanade of the Port, where there will also be crafts, gastronomy and children's activities to enjoy the whole family, such and as pointed out by the mayor of Culture "a space in which free concerts are interspersed with entertainment groups, DJs, children's activities, handicrafts fair and a restoration space consisting of striking food Trucks and Food Trucks (old vans restored to carry out the elaboration and sale of these products), which achieve a very important convening power bringing together thousands of people, and placing the Port of Cartagena as a nerve center not only of the city, but of the entire Region during the days that are celebrate the same. "

The objective is clear, "the idea that encourages the Department is to once again convert this festival in a few editions, one of the references of the regional and national Folk."

With regard to programming, Toni Peña stressed that "the concept of the past decade is recovered, with a representation of folk music at a national level, in which groups from Galicia, Madrid and Castilla León have a place", among others.

Thus, for the opening of this year will feature the performance of one of the classics of the folk scene, the flute player Carlos Soto, who was one of the founders of the legendary group Celtas Cortos, which comes with his folk quintet Castijazz.

An artist who has represented as nobody the union between modernity and tradition with projects of international projection as Awen Magic Land.

The concert will take place on June 7 from 8:30 p.m.

at the Ramón Alonso Luzzy Cultural Center, with free admission until full capacity is reached.

Already in the esplanade of the Port, June 8, is scheduled another of the great classics of the national folk scene, La Musgaña, one of the bands that have marked the evolution of national folk with the recovery and reworking of traditional songs with Castilian base .

They will come with a renewed formation in trio format, inaugurating the main stage of the festival with its repertoire of cheerful melodies.

In addition, by Carlos Soto and La Musgaña, there will be activities throughout the weekend, such as the performance of the Celticue bagpipes from Cartagena, who will parade through the downtown streets announcing the festival, or the Folkibero children's show, for the little ones Enjoy in family.

Other artists who will dress us, DJ Boni Pinchamundos, who comes from Albacete;

D'akokan, group of the Region of Murcia of Brazilian percussion;

Bessarabia, Valencian trio;

Pan de Capazo, a band made up of musicians from different places, including foreigners;

Street Wings, Madrilenians focused on Celtic music;

and the Oh Brother Hood group, creators of a more Anglo-Saxon folk, and one of its members, Carlos Vudú, has interpreted the closing of the event presentation, one of the themes included in the repertoire that will offer his band the Saturday, June 9.
