Manuel Padín: "the amendment for coastal batteries is a key step for us to be Cultural Landscape of Humanity" (14/05/2018)

- "Cartagena is among the cities where this statement can be more beneficial, so Citizens has presented this year an amendment to the PGE to value the shore batteries for a million euros, so we are going to question the counselor of Culture to write the Master Plan of the Cathedral of Cartagena and that's why we included an amendment last year with 200,000 euros for the consolidation works of the Bullring as a previous step to the recovery of the Roman Amphitheater, "said the local spokesman of Cs

In relation to the meeting held today by the mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, and the general director of the CICOP Foundation, Miguel Ángel F. Matrán and the vice-rector of Campus and Sustainability of the UPCT, Marcos Ros, to address the constitution of an Executive Committee for the nomination of Cartagena as a Cultural Landscape of Humanity before UNESCO, the spokesperson for Citizens in Cartagena, Manuel Padín, has indicated that "Citizens is working very hard to get the declaration of Cartagena as a Heritage of the Humanity".

In this regard, he recalled that in April 2016 it was his Parliamentary Group that got the Regional Assembly to approve an initiative to promote the international recognition of the historical and cultural heritage of Cartagena through this declaration.

The spokesman for Citizens in Cartagena, Manuel Padín, recalled that his group also promoted in the City Council through a motion this statement, which was finally enriched with the contributions of the other groups and was taken to the House as a joint motion.

Padín believes that "we must not forget this issue and we must push together, work and move, the declaration of World Heritage is not only something we deserve, it is of capital importance in Cartagena, it will not only promote and project the image of our historical, archaeological and natural wealth throughout the world, increasing our tourism positioning and our prestige, but we could access the World Heritage Fund for various restoration and protection actions. "

According to Padín, "we are among those cities where this statement may be more profitable, others because of its immense income and its positioning may not need it because it does not compensate them so much, but for Cartagena, which has the economic limitations that we have, is something crucial, a unrenounceable destiny ".

In the opinion of Manuel Padín, "it is not only about achieving it, but about fighting politically to increase our possibilities through investments to recover our patrimony, that is why Citizens has presented this year an amendment to the General Budgets of the State to put in value the coast batteries for a million euros, so we are going to ask the Minister of Culture to draft the Master Plan for the Cathedral of Cartagena and that is why we include an amendment to the municipal budgets last year with 200,000 euros for the works of consolidation of the Plaza de Toros as a step prior to the recovery of the Roman Amphitheater ".

"Citizens are very clear about their objective and the steps that must be taken to achieve it, and not with words but with facts and investment," says Padín.

"If the mayor of Cartagena wants to take real steps towards the declaration of World Heritage, you can start by asking your secretary general, Pedro Sanchez, to support the amendment for shore batteries," said the Cs spokesman.
