The City Council initiates the cleaning works prior to the rehabilitation of the Rubio House in El Algar (10/05/2018)

The technicians of the Department of Infrastructures, directed by Juan Pedro Torralba, have started cleaning the interior of the Rubio House in El Algar, so that researchers from the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) can start the study on structural security, which will dictate the guidelines for the rehabilitation of the property.

These works are the result of the agreement signed last December between the City of Cartagena and the UPCT to offer a concrete solution of constructive structural intervention, as well as the adaptation and cataloging of the elements of the interior of the building that must be conserved.

"For us the rehabilitation of the Rubio House in El Algar was very important, as we know it is for the neighbors.

It is an emblematic building and we need researchers from the Polytechnic University to give us a diagnosis of their condition in order to recover it for the use and enjoyment of the neighbors of El Algar, "said the councilor.

Among the possible uses that are being considered for this space is a library.

The study of the UPCT includes three fundamental areas that are:

1. Study the degree of conservation of the structure and determine the state of the original elements, since it is a protected building.

2. Analyze the enclosures to adapt them to the current regulations in terms of fire safety, energy saving, noise, accessibility and sanitation.

3. Qualify the furniture of the interior to proceed with its cataloging.

The total cost of the works amounts to 33,323.64 euros, of which the City takes 17,449.24 euros.
