Cartagena Piensa brings an open conversation with El Roto al Luzzy (10/05/2018)

Andrés Rábago, alias 'El Roto', will come this Friday, May 11, to the Josefina Soria Library of the Ramón Alonso Luzzy Cultural Center at 7:30 p.m., where he will hold an open conversation with the attendees framed within the cultural program 'Cartagena Piensa' .

Rábago will also be accompanied by Cartagena artist Luis González-Adalid.

The artist from Madrid will reflect on social satire and how, during the 70s and 80s, after pseudonyms such as PAHO and later "El Roto", he has tried to break with the condition of the individual-mass and awaken the conscience of information anesthetizing through his art.

Andrés Rábago, El Roto (Madrid, 1947) is a painter and draftsman.

During the seventies and eighties, under the pseudonym OPS, he collaborated in numerous magazines such as Hermano Lobo, La Codorniz, Triunfo or Madriz.

His drawing referred to the unconscious and was placed in a stylistic context close to Dada.

With the arrival of democracy, PAHO was silenced and emerged with a new pseudonym, El Roto.

The drawings of El Roto have been published in newspapers such as Diario16, El Independiente, El Periódico de Cataluña and now in El País.

Parallel to the drawing and under the signature A. Rábago, the painting has always been present in the trajectory of the author.

In it, he tries to transcend the individual consciousness and situate himself on a deeper level.

His work has been the subject of numerous exhibitions and collected in a score of books.

His most recent individual exhibitions: in 2014, Apocalypse at the Contemporary Art Center of Malaga (CAC), in 2016 at the Barjola Museum, Gijón, in 2017 at the Caja Negra Gallery in Madrid, at Sala Aós Salvador in Logroño and at the Carme Center of Valencia, among others.

He has numerous awards, such as Francisco Cerecedo de Periodismo (1993), the first International Drawing Prize in the Press (France, 1999), the Julián Besteiro de las Artes y las Letras (2005), the National Illustration (2012), the Leyenda de los Libreros de Madrid prize (2015), and the Gold Medal for Merit in the Fine Arts (2017).
