Cartagena recreates the inauguration of the statue of Isidoro Maiquez to commemorate its 250th anniversary (08/05/2018)

The city of Cartagena hosts in these months various acts to commemorate the figure of the illustrious Cartagena actor, Isidoro Máiquez, on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of his birth.

Within these events, scheduled by the city of Cartagena, the re-creation of the statue of Isidoro Máiquez will take place.

It will be next Sunday, May 13 at 12:00 in the Plaza de San Francisco.

The act will imitate, in a reliable way, the tribute that was made to the actor Isidoro Máiquez when he placed, for the first time, the sculpture made by the sculptor Ortells, on May 2, 1927.

In Plaza San Francisco, a timeless space will be created where actors, extras and the public in general will compose a simultaneous scenario in three different eras.

The first of them will recreate the eighteenth century, with the figure of Isidoro Máiquez himself.

Another will travel to the twentieth century, with the representation of the act of inauguration of the monument in 1927, where various actors will get into the skin of the mayor Alfonso Torres, the councilor Mediavilla, the sculptor Ortells, the actor Ortiz de Zarate, the reciter Nieves Suarez and the baritone Marcos Redondo.

And finally, from the current XXI century, with the presence of the authorities and the attending public.

The act will begin with the appearance of Isidoro Máiquez, from his own sculptural image, welcoming the attendees.

The recreation of the inauguration of the statue will begin with the arrival of the authorities, who attended the act of 1927. All of them will arrive at the square in a vintage vehicle, accompanied by the group of the Cultural Association Los Modernistas de Cartagena de Levante , who will be dressed in period costumes.

The delegation will be received with a musical performance by the Marine Infantry Unit of Cartagena.

The band will offer a concert of Spanish music that will be interspersed between the different acts of this program, in the same way that it was done 91 years ago.

The act will continue with the reading of the speech that the mayor Alfonso Torres, the same who led the Cartageneros in that 1927. At the end, the cultural association The Modernists of Cartagena de Levante, with period costumes, make a wreath under the feet of the sculpture of Máiquez.

As happened 91 years ago, there will be a reading of the speech of the actor of the time, Ortiz de Zarate and the reciter, Nieves Suarez.

It will return to the 21st century with a closing speech by the current mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón.

The point and final in this act to commemorate the figure of Isidoro Máiquez on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of his birth will put the 'Anthem to Freedom', in the same way that the baritone Marcos Redondo did in 1927.
