Cartagena celebrates its IV Global Citizen Action with activities for coexistence and social cohesion, ConVive in Barrio 2018 (30/04/2018)

On Sunday, April 29, a representative sector of the social entities, public administrations and neighbors of the neighborhoods of Casco Histórico and Sector Estación de Cartagena, have developed a community day, in which, through a extensive programming of recreational activities, socio-educational activities, awareness-raising activities ... continue to advance in the construction of a neighborhood in which intercultural coexistence and social cohesion are the main elements of the image of these neighborhoods in the municipality of Cartagena.

A total of 23 entities, public and private institutions linked to these neighborhoods, developed a broad program of activities: handicraft workshops, the visibility of Cartagena Free of Rumors, salsa workshop, children's gymkhana, activities to promote values ​​of gender equality, storytelling, mural 'Cose y no rompas', training workshops and labor insertion, cariocas elaboration, balloon twisting, ...

The mayor of Culture, Education and Youth, David Martinez, was with the neighbors and participating in a tour of the different stands, accompanied by representatives of Obra Social "la Caixa" and the director of the Cepaim Foundation, as well as representatives of other entities and collaborating institutions.

This festive day is part of the community process promoted by the City of Cartagena, the Cepaim Foundation and the "la Caixa" Foundation for four years.

Participation in this meeting shows the progress of this intercultural community process in the neighborhood of the Historic Quarter and Sector Station, launched in this territory in July 2014.

The ICI Project, born from the need to face a new reality as a result of the migratory movements of our society, and which make cities increasingly diverse, is becoming a fundamental axis of social action in the new multicultural context.

Who made it possible?

For the development of this day in Cartagena, citizens, social entities, Area II Health and local administration have designed many activities designed by and for all ages.

Around 23 entities and institutions, as well as neighbors, have collaborated in the planning and development of the day:

The Department of Social Services, Department of Education, Department of Youth, Obra Social "La Caixa", Cepaim Foundation, Health Area II, Regional Museum of Modern Art of the Region of Murcia, Polytechnic University of Cartagena, School Patronato Sagrado Corazón de Jesus, Neighborhood Association of the Station Sector, Colectivo La Huertecica, Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, Caritas Diocese of Cartagena, Sodicar (Association of Diabetics of Cartagena and District), Caixa Incorpora Program, AMPA School Patronato Sagrado Corazón de Jesús, AFAL, Cruz Roja Juventud, TP Cartagena, ISEN, Afibrocar, and individually, residents of the neighborhood.

What is the Intercultural Community Intervention Project (ICI Project)?

The Intercultural Community Intervention Project, promoted by the Obra Social "la Caixa" in 37 neighborhoods of Spain in collaboration with different administrations and social entities, is a social action initiative with a preventive orientation and that fosters intercultural relations, favors cohesion social and seeks to empower society for the coexistence and community development of their territories.

In Cartagena, the ICI Project has been carried out since July 2014 through the collaboration of the City of Cartagena and the Cepaim Foundation.
