More than 1,300 people participate in the workshops of the UP in neighborhoods and councils (30/04/2018)

One more course, the Popular University continues to approach the neighborhoods and county councils with the program 'The Popular University in your neighborhood', designed to promote social participation, training, personal growth and culture with the primary objective of improving the quality of life of the people and of the community.

To do this, a total of 27 different short-duration workshops have been offered, of which 25 are free, and revolve around topics such as art and crafts, health and well-being, humanities and photography, as well as new technologies.

So far, a total of 74 workshops have been carried out in this course, in which 1,383 people belonging to 31 collectives from the neighborhoods or councils of Cartagena have participated.

The councilman of Culture, David Martinez, accompanied by the director of the Popular University, José Macián, visited on Friday some of the workshops, highlighting the mayor the success of participation they have year after year.

With the implementation of these activities, the UP has achieved several of its purposes, including:

That self-expression and creativity be enhanced as a vehicle for improving self-esteem, carrying out activities that develop skills and abilities.

That integral development is favored by incorporating training in health and well-being issues.

That access and use of new technologies be facilitated for a better development in the environment.

That group tasks are carried out favoring cooperation and interaction as well as neighborhood coexistence.

WORKSHOPS

Art and crafts: The Travel Box, Letterhead, Cardboard stone, Preparation of sweet tables, Christmas decoration, Jewelery, Embossing of metals, Stained glass and Decoupage.

The workshops of Stained Glass and Elaboration of sweet tables together with Repujado and Jewelery have been those that more have had acceptance.

Health and Wellbeing: Food and natural health, False myths of nutrition, Natural remedies, medicinal plants, Psychobiotics to improve emotional and mental balance, Intergenerational cuisine, Festive cuisine, Nendo Dango, seeds for your land, reforestation workshop and Eco- potted orchards.

In the area of ​​health and well-being, this course has been introduced with the aim of providing multiple values ​​of sustainability and respect for the environment.

With the workshops Eco-gardens and Nendo Dango, seeds for your land, we have known the benefits that we can bring to the planet and our own health by replanting with seeds or creating a home garden where we grow vegetables and culinary herbs.

On the other hand, with intergenerational cooking workshops, adults and children have created healthy menus as a family, approaching without fear the hearths.

Humanities: Theatrical games, Brazilian Batucada, Economy for daily life.

The Economy for Daily Life workshop has helped participants to plan aspects such as income and expenses or retirement, learning to negotiate bills such as electricity or telephony.

With the Batucada workshop we have taken the Brazilian rhythms to the neighborhoods and have even created permanent animation groups.

Technologies: Introduction to photography, Manage your tablet.

In these workshops the participants have learned to take better pictures and take advantage of their tablets with the use of different applications.
