A Tradition of Images (11/06/2010)

From 16 to June 30 Cultural Centre in Murcia Caja Pedreño House will host an exhibition of photographs of Holy Week by the online community of photographers in recent years has acquired quite a reputation in the Internet through www.Flickr. com and called A Tradition in Pictures.

In it, the photographers upload their pictures, being exposed to the comments of people who visit them.

Within this community form groups in which the works are grouped by subject, source, or any other system.

One such group is called Art Photography Cofrade.

The group is managed by Jorge Sese Abadias photographer renowned for Zaragoza, Rafael Merelo Guervós, a preacher of the holy week of Asbed, photographer and student of Holy Week in general, José M ª Pérez Concellon, official photographer of the Board of Guilds Valladolid and one of the most prestigious photographers semanasanteros country, and Contreras Julián Hernández, who won the official poster for the Semana Santa 2010 de Cartagena.

In this group there are numerous activities such as photo contests and issues, technical discussions and individual presentations.

Following leave knowing more members of that group, it was decided to conduct a thematic exhibition on semanasantera.

To do so was made a shortlist of photos of all those photographers who remain members of the group expressed their desire to participate.

This work was entrusted to art historians, Julio César García Rodríguez and Andrés Vicente à lvarez.

The exhibition was mounted with a total of 72 shots, the result of work of 34 photographers from many sources.

As a result, one of the best assets of the shows is the variety of viewpoints provided by each and every one of the authors, which has greatly contributed to enrich the collection is presented.

In the exhibition are represented the passion week Valladolid, Zamora, Salamanca, Cartagena, Córdoba, Sevilla, Cádiz, Asbed, Cuenca, Huelva, Zaragoza, Almeria, Granada, as well as Guatemala and El Salvador.

Two photographers Cartagena: Diego Garcia Mercader José Contreras Julián Hernández and show their works in this exhibition.

All photographs are presented in 50x70cm format, combining work in color with black and white, and they see themselves reflected the sizes, the steps and thrones processions of penitents, the public, and any aspect that often can go unnoticed in the sight of a procession, and yet they are essential parts of this sort of staging street which is the celebration of Holy Week at the beginning of each spring.

In the works shown the container that houses such occasions, which is none other than the cities of each of the photographers, to gradually go down to the smallest detail or the heartfelt gestures of all the actors that compose the division that puts on this kind of car passion.

The first edition of this exhibition took place in Ciudad Real, in the XXII National Congress of Guilds Penitential last September, and finally arriving at Valladolid in the last Easter sponsored by the Provincial Board and City Guilds pucelano .

Cartagena now reaches one of the events of the Cultural Week of the Brotherhood California.

The official opening will be Friday June 18 at 20 pm and will be attended by the Mayor of Cartagena, Pilar Barreiro.

After Cartagena, the exhibition will travel in October and Asbed Zaragoza, at Easter 2011.
