The Municipal Archives of the City of Cartagena these days pays homage to the photographer Cartagena Ramón García Pérez, with an exhibition which shows various personal items such as cameras, trophies, documents and a brief selection of his varied and extensive artwork.
Ramon Garcia Perez, who died in January 2010 after a long and varied career as a newspaper photographer, his camera captured a multitude of characters and moments of the last decades in the city.
Shortly before his death he bequeathed to the City their photographic collections and memorabilia from his personal collection.
A small sample of these funds, are those who have been exposed to the public until July at the premises of the Municipal Archives, located in the old Artillery Park Plaza López Pinto.
Ramón García Pérez was born in Cartagena in 1917, in a family devoted to cinematography: his father and uncles (the brothers García) were the introducers of cinema in Cartagena in 1897, projected the first movie in the cabin that installed in the Walk spring.
Although professionally trained as a goldsmith in a silver, soon devoted himself to photography, which began at age 15, eventually becoming a beloved character he portrayed in successive generations of Cartagena and picked up his camera events highlights of their city.
As a professional photographer began in the daily line, in 1960, then became a contributor to The Truth and correspondent for the news agency Europa Press.
He also collaborated with El Noticiero de Cartagena and Cartagena 7 days.
Big fan of themes Cartagena, was particularly attracted by the teacher Alvarez and his most famous: the pasodoble Sighs of Spain.
Won three national awards in photojournalism and in 2007 was appointed Cartagenero of the Year, among many other marks of recognition for his long career.
