Cartagena, a city with a future, more open, more tourism and more weight in the region, with the Popular Party (14/05/2010)

The Popular Party celebrates its fifteenth year of municipal government in Cartagena, since winning elections in 1995, and will conclude with a slogan that accounts for the progress and that is a bet on the future: Cartagena is a big city.

This has been communicated to the media this morning, the president of the Partido Popular, Francisco Celdran, and the secretary general, Pilar Barreiro, at party headquarters.

'We want to use this anniversary to look back and take stock of those 15 years in government', said Francisco Celdran, who has highlighted the strength, unity and cohesion, as prominent party values.

To commemorate the anniversary will be holding an event to be held in the Nuevo Teatro Circo, on Friday, May 21, at 20.00 hours.

In it, political figures will attend national and regional People's Party, as the parliamentary group's spokesman in Congress Soraya Saenz de Santamaria, President of the Community, Ramón Luis Varcarcel as well as mayors and councilors from different municipalities of the region.

Will also meet all party members who have been part of various governments of the PP in the city of Cartagena, and 'we hope to attend all citizens who have supported us in an act reminiscent of the filing of the application of PP in the year 95, which was also made in the same scenario '

During these years of government, the PP has managed a city with a future, more open, more tourism, with more modern districts and county councils with more weight in the Region of Murcia.

"Our starting point was to pick a city down, depressed, with no expectations.

15 years ago no one believed in Cartagena and after this long journey today we proudly offer a great city, "stressed Pilar Barreiro, where he lists 15 milestones that have helped forge a bright future for Cartagena:

- The opening of the city to the sea, marking the change of identity of the city.

- The creation of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena, motor city and field of research.

- The closure of potash and derivatives, which has become one of the least polluted cities.

- Detour railway line Barrio Peral

- Channelling Rambla de Benipila and large hydraulic infrastructure.

- The fast-track connections with Madrid, Alicante and Andalucia.

- The opening of El Corte Ingles and large shopping centers.

- Recovery histórcio Hull, with the rehabilitation of facades, buildings, building renovation streets of the university district.

- Consolidation of the Valley of tailings as energy and industrial pole of the Region of Murcia.

- The birth of Cartagena, Puerto de Culturas.

- Modernization of the districts and county with additional lighting, better seats and sanitary equipment, sporting, educational and social.

- The cultural influence of Cartagena with festivals such as the Sea Much Music or May.

- The opening of the Roman Theatre and the Theatre Museum.

- The Old Town pedestrian, who has filled the streets visitors and citizens.

- The construction of the auditorium and conference center.

'These changes have marked the evolution of the municipality, have helped build a new Cartagena, renewed, stronger and more promising', said the secretary general.

Still, Pilar Barreiro stressed that Cartagena has not given the best of itself.

Also, it has created in the social network Facebook, a page: Cartagena, a city that has more than 200 people, where they can review the city, give ideas and announce the various events that take place in the city.
